Saiu

Bonus Attribute: +1 Awareness

Heirs to the Craft-Wise Lady of the Shore, the Saiu are the lords of the Sumihane clan, standing most often as diplomats and courtiers, thought they maintain a strong magistrate tradition. They tend to be slim and graceful, with pale skin and hair, and bright eyes.

Saiu are usually paragons of courtesy and etiquette, and the vast bulk of the Empire's social customs have their origin in the practices of the Family's founding kami and her early descendants and followers. Saiu tend to be soft-spoken and gentle, respectful and modest, though they can be great orators. They are often wealthy, for their coastal territory is the avenue of a much trade and home to abundant natural resources.

Hakato

Bonus Attribute: +1 Agility

The Hakato are closest servants of the Saiu, and bridge the gap between court and the battlefield, serving most often as duellists and champions for their clan's miyabito. They are often tall and lean, with aquiline noses and narrow faces.

Though most commonly bushi, Hakato typically consider themselves artists first, taking the sword as their medium of choice, and their martial practices are highly ritualized, drawing on the style of their founder dating to before the end of the Primordial War. Hakato are often flinty of temperament, embracing cultured refinement and courteous behaviour, but quick to take offence to perceived slights.

Dosei

Bonus Attribute: +1 Stamina

The Dosei form the greatest part of the Sumihane military, serving as shock troops and heavy warriors, as well as dedicated yōjimbō. Physically they typically are the largest of the Sumihane, with broad shoulders and powerful limbs.

Dosei are far more pragmatic than other Families of their clan, and they tend to be constantly conscious of hard truths, earning a reputation for dourness. They respect the demands of etiquette as much as other Sumihane, but will often become far more direct in moments of extremity. Otherwise, they tend to be fairly stoic.

Yuutsuru

Bonus Attribute: +1 Intelligence

The Yuutsuru are the onmyōji family of the Sumihane, serving most often as priests and shrine-keepers. They tend to be small of stature, with fine bones and open features, often including pale eyes with pronounced lashes.

Yuutsuru are often staunch pacifists, and typically maintain close ties to the Families of the Negurakori. They tend to embrace the arts, and are typically among the more pious and traditional onmyōji Families of the Empire.
